We’d like to welcome Marisa Vinsky onto Council! In doing so, we asked her a few questions to get to know her better:
Current place of employment?
Chartier & Nyamfukudza, P.L.C.
Law school?
Michigan State University College of Law
Objectives/goals related to your new position as Council Member–i.e. what do you want to accomplish?
Strengthen the connection of young lawyers throughout the state so they do not feel alone in their new career.
Favorite thing about your geographic region in Michigan?
The proximity to the Capitol, Michigan Court of Appeals, and Michigan Supreme Court
Why did you choose to pursue a legal career?
I have wanted to be a lawyer since the first grade, so it is always something I was interested in. Aside from being the most interesting to me, I felt like criminal defense was the area I could make the most difference in the criminal prosecution system.
What advice do you wish you knew when you were starting your legal career that you know now?
Other young attorneys, and even some seasoned attorneys, around you have just as much imposter syndrome as you do. You worked hard to get where you are, so don’t second-guess your ability to do your job.
What is surprising about your job that others may not know?
We represent a wide group of the population, ranging from cannibals to dogs on doggy death row.
What do you like to do in your spare time (i.e. hobbies and interests)?
I love reading and doing puzzles, and I am a huge fan of all of the Detroit sports teams. I’m still not over the Lions’ loss!
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Being invisible
If you could have lunch with any person, living or dead, who would it be? Why?
Barack Obama. He seems so laid back outside of a professional setting, and I know we would have great discussions about movies, books, and music because of his “Favorites” lists he creates every year.
