Meet one of our newest Council Members, Megan Mitchell! Let’s find out a little more about her:
Current place of employment?
Abdnour Weiker LLP
Law school?
Vanderbilt (2019)
Objectives/goals related to your new position as Council Member–i.e. what do you want to accomplish?
I want to get more involved in the YLS community, help people access legal assistance, and hopefully befriend other young lawyers who are also new to the state bar!
Favorite thing about your geographic region in Michigan?
I grew up in Flint, so returning to this area has definitely been a homecoming. I’d say what I love most about this region is that I’m close to all my family.
Why did you choose to pursue a legal career?
I wanted to do something meaningful that would honor the sacrifices my parents made for me to be able to access the education they didn’t get.
What advice do you wish you knew when you were starting your legal career that you know now?
1) You are the lawyer your clients need. Don’t doubt yourself. 2) Girl, somewhere out there a mediocre man with half your talent/capability, but triple your confidence is doing what you want to do. Go do it.
What is surprising about your job that others may not know?
I get to work from home! It is awesome and I love the flexibility my firm provides.
What do you like to do in your spare time (i.e. hobbies and interests)?
I am a huge nerd. On any given weekend you can find me DM’ing a dungeons & dragons campaign, writing, or playing cozy video games. I love plants. Seriously – my apartment is like a jungle. I also enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my dog, Tonks and my cat, Catticus Finch.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Flight
If you could have lunch with any person, living or dead, who would it be? Why?
My grandfather, Dan. We were very close when I was growing up. He passed away when I was 18. I still talk to him, but it would be nice to be able to hear something back.
Welcome, Megan! We’re so happy you’re on board!
